Hypnosis May Offer Benefits for IBS
Treatment Improves Symptoms of Disorder, Study Finds
In the first long term study of its kind, hypnotherapy was found to relive symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome in 71% of patients tested. As the results of this study concluded, Dr. Wendy Gonsalkorale, of the Whithington Hospital in Manchester, England reported "It, (hypnotherapy), is a viable therapeutic option for the treatment of irritable bowel."
More than 200 patients with IBS were a part of this study. Each patient underwent 12 one-hour hypnotherapy sessions as a part of their treatment plan. The majority of these patients experienced: improvement in symptoms, including a decrease in the amount of medication used to threat the syndrome; better quality of life; less depression and anxiety.
